Fashion Favourites: 2017

Christmas and New Year are fast approaching and I can’t believe that 2018 is nearly upon us. This year has been a rollercoaster but I am so happy with where I am at currently. I cannot wait for 2018 and what it has in store and of course what the fashion world has in store for us. As a farewell to 2017 and to this year’s fashion choices, I thought I’d collate my favourite outfits, trends, and stores I came across this year as a sort of digital memory box, not just for myself, but for you as well.

First, we have to start with the puffer. Everywhere I look I see a puffer. A plethora of puffers if you will. I recently gave into the puffer trend and bought my very own bright red puffer from Monki (more about Monki later). I am in love with it. It is the warmest coat I own and was such a reasonable price. The puffer kept me cosy and warm at midnight when my friends and I took photos of the incredible, starry night sky.

This year I have become obsessed with pinafores and gingham. Why have I paired these together? Obviously, because the pinafore I own is gingham! Gingham has arguably taken the spotlight in stores this year and I am not surprised at all. Gingham works on and with anything – you name it. I saw so many gingham dresses this year and all of them reminded me of primary school and my summer dress uniform. When gingham and pinafores combined forces, they created the cutest and most stylish outfit. I have yet to get an acceptable photo of me in my pinafore dress to post on here, but you can buy it on Brandy Melville and so many stores

I’m going to finish off my favourite clothes from 2017 with an item which has quickly become my go-to for every day and night….the turtleneck. Steve Jobs. Dwayne Johnson. The Beatles. Everyone loves a turtleneck. It keeps you warm, goes well on its own and with dresses and is acceptable as smart or casual wear. The turtleneck IMO is the most versatile item of clothing. I feel like I’m trying to sell you a turtleneck, but I definitely recommend buying one or two straight after you’re done reading. I own a skinny, long-sleeved black turtleneck which goes perfectly with my pinafore and I have worn it on a night out and for a nice family lunch. This quickly became my favourite item in my closet, until it began to get colder and I stumbled on a turtleneck jumper. Yes, you heard me right. A comfy, warm jumper with a thick turtleneck, keeping you cosy and toasty on a cold, winter night. (Definitely turned into a turtleneck saleswoman). I would not complain if my whole wardrobe was turtleneck and I have no shame in looking like Dwayne Johnson with my mom jeans (and bum bag of course).

MONKI. Oh, how I have fallen in love with you this year. If you happen to visit London, go to Carnaby Street and go in Monki, you will not be disappointed. And if you’re not, visit their website. Monki is a great combination of colourful and crazy, to smart and sultry. Amongst all this raving, you’re probably wondering what the catch is: expensive? Nope. Poor quality? Nah. Limited sizing? Try again. I don’t know what else I can say about Monki other than go visit their store/site right now and fall in love.
